Urge California Governor to Sign Spay/Neuter Act, Save Lives

Please forward this to others who might be willing to lend their voices to this important issue.

Our nation faces an animal-overpopulation crisis, and California is no exception. A vital piece of legislation that would help the state tackle the overpopulation crisis and help prevent dog attacks—Senate Bill 861—was passed by the state Senate on August 31 and sent to Governor Schwarzenegger. Please urge the governor to do the right thing and sign this act today.

Once signed by Governor Schwarzenegger, SB 861 will allow city and county governments to enact ordinances mandating the sterilization of certain breeds of dogs, provided that no specific  breed is declared potentially dangerous or vicious by such ordinances. The bill would also make California safer. As you may know, dogs who are not neutered are 2.6 times more likely to attack humans than are dogs who have been sterilized.

Schwarzenegger, who has not taken a position on the bill, has until October 9 to sign the bill or veto it (it will become law if he fails to act by that date). California's animals are counting on you—please urge the Governor to sign SB 861 today:

The Honorable Arnold Schwarzenegger
Governor of California
State Capitol Building
Sacramento, CA 95814
916-445-2841
916-445-4633 (fax)

You can also send an e-mail to the governor.
