Travis County Commissioners Court Resolution

In December 1997, the City of Austin and Travis County each adopted a resolution to end the killing of adoptable animals at Town Lake Animal Center. The two resolutions read as follows:

Austin City Council Resolution

Whereas, the City of Austin Animal Advisory Commission adopted a resolution on November 18, 1997 requesting that we consider adopting the operative parts of this resolution;

Now therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Austin:

That it is the official goal of the City of Austin that the practice of killing adoptable animals at the Town Lake Animal Center be ended by the end of the year 2002; and

Be it further resolved that the City Manager in cooperation with the Austin Animal Advisory Commission and other interested organizations is hereby instructed to develop a plan to reach this goal and present that plan to the City Council no later than the end of March 1998.

Travis County Commissioners Court Resolution

It is hereby resolved that it is the official goal of Travis County, Texas, that the practice of killing adoptable animals at the Town Lake Animal Center be ended by the end of the year 2000.

The Executive Manager for Health and Human Services is hereby instructed to develop a plan, in cooperation with the Animal Advisory Commission and other groups and area communities expressing interest in this issue, to reach this goal and present that plan to the Commissioners Court no later than the end of March, 1998.
